Who will judge the competition?
As in previous years, we are pleased to announce that Peter Rowlands, the well respected editor of Underwater Photography magazine, has agreed to judge the competition again.
How do I register?
When & Where can photographs be taken?
When? From 22:00hrs on the night before competition day to 17:00hrs on the competition day. (See Competition Timeline)
Where? The Geographic Area: normally this Torbay, Devon, defined as including any site located between Berry Head, Brixham and the north of Oddicombe Beach, Torquay within the boundaries of Torquay Harbour as shown on maritime charts. However, if the forecast weather conditions (e.g. strong easterly winds) do not permit safe diving within Torbay, the geographical area for the competition will be extended (as happened in 2019 and 2020).
Photos may be taken on a shore or boat dive.
Various charter boats in Torquay, Teignmouth and elsewhere may be available for bookings on the day of the competition. These are your own responsibility.
Method of submitting entries
By USB memory stick only please. The files must be named as per the completion rules, with the competitor number and competition category. Entries to be handed in by the deadline to members of Torbay BSAC at the display stand on Beacon Quay, Torquay Harbour.
Evening Event – Buffet, Exhibition & Presentations
The judging and presentation of prizes will take place on the same day at our Evening Event, to be held at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club, Torquay. During the evening, dinner will be provided. Everyone is welcome to our presentation evening, so you can bring along a guest. Admission is by ticket only. Additional tickets for guests may be purchased by e-mailing the club. A 2-course dinner will be served at the table and drinks can be ordered from the bar - please bring a payment card, preferably contactless, since cash will not be accepted.
All the photographs entered in the competition will be on display and entered into the Popular Vote category.
The weather and other unforeseen circumstances
If adverse weather conditions develop in the days before the competition, the club will be guided by advice from the Harbourmaster, Torquay and by HM Coastguard.
Torbay BSAC reserves the right to change the geographical constraints of the competition or cancel the event at short notice if we feel conditions dictate. Every reasonable effort will be made to contact competitors by phone or text. We will also place a notification by means of a post on the club Facebook page.
It is the responsibility of the individual competitor to determine if it is safe to dive from any particular location on the day of the competition.
